More than 25 years’ travel industry experience

I have spent most of my life in the travel industry. My first job was working for Kuoni Travel in the UK: I spent 8 very happy, formative years there and I was lucky enough to have visited many places around the world from Bali to Venezuela.

My first trip with the company was to Thailand in 1981 and that is when Asia became my passion; so much so that, together with my business partner Margaret, I went on to run a successful Far East tailor-made specialist tour operator, Magic of the Orient. We sold the company to the First Choice Group plc in 2005 and the brand has now been subsumed.

In the intervening years I have been enjoying my time discovering a life outside the travel trade; pursuing my interest in education and personal development.

They do say, however, that once travel is in your blood there is no escape and sure enough I found myself drawn back to the industry. I am currently combining my interests in travel and education providing online learning for the travel industry.

Making a difference

In my spare time I have been a school governor and a charity trustee and, one day, as I was pondering about what I could do next to ‘make a difference’, it occurred to me that I should combine all of my experience and interests into one project and so PositivelyTravel.com was born.

What we do

This web site is for those who want to travel with a purpose. I will be searching out tours and special places that you can experience, which meet sustainable tourism criteria, and which are making a positive contribution to the local community, to the environment, to wildlife, or a combination of all three.

I have carefully selected companies around the world who can deliver these experiences in a professional manner; and more than that, companies operated by people who believe, as I do, that the business of travel isn’t just about business. It is also about our responsibilities to the environment, to those less-fortunate than us and to future generations.
